Blogs in the classroom

I can really see myself using Blogs in my classroom. Blogs can be used as a great communication tool and we all know that communication in the classroom is very important, both teacher-parent and teacher-student communication. In addition, blogs can be used creatively especially in a world language classroom. This would be a great opportunity to getting my students to 'Blog' in Spanish or share pictures of Spanish-speaking countries that they have traveled to or even discuss food or restaurants that they have tried etc... The important thing to do is make parents and students aware of the purpose of Blogging and set some rules so that it is used in a professional and educational manner. I can't wait to Blog in Spanish with my students!

I agree with you that blogs can be useful in the classroom. But I also believe a teacher needs to be careful when using one. For speaking to students across the country or even world, I think they can be very useful. Blogging about issues with kids from schools throughout the world and even speaking in other languages can certainly enhance the classroom experience. For classroom discussions and things alike though, I don't feel they can replicate the classroom experience . For teacher-parent-student communication, I have found email to be very effective and more private. Safety and Proper use would definitely be issues with a classroom blog that I would worry about. It certainly has it's positives and negatives, but I probably won't be using one anytime soon in class.
